Lesson 18 Never Catch a Dinosaur

Lesson 18 is the sixth lesson in Unit 3, Book 5.This unit focus on the subject safety. Students cares about the subject because it is close to everyone. Lesson 18 mainly talks about Li Ming’s accident which happened when he was climbing the tree.
To learn some words and phrases about safety tips during and after the earthquake. Such as: rule, branch, training and so on. And go on practicing describing an accident.

Step 1. Warm-up
1. Show the picture of two boys climb the tree, ask students: What happened? What are the two boys doing? If you fall down from a high place, what would happen?
What would you do if you see someone falling down?
Step 2. Presentation
Explain the new words: branch, rule, training.
Listen to the lesson and write true (T) or false (F).
Danny felt terrible because of his carelessness. ( )

Explain the language points:

catch a falling dinosaur意为“接住一只往下掉的恐龙”指去做超过自身能力的事情。

advise为及物动词意为“劝告建议”。advise sb. to do sth.意为“建议某人做某事”advise sb. not to do sth.相当于advise sb. against sth./doing sth.意为“劝告某人不要做某事”。
I told her I would be careful.
这是带有宾语从句的复合句主句为一般过去时从句用的是过去将来时。would be careful在这里表示“过去将要做某事”。
“Don’t climb too high,” she warned.
副词highly通常指抽象的“高高度”。warn为及物动词意为“警告”其名词形式为warning, warn sb.(not)to do sth.意为“提醒/警告某人(不要)做某事”。
She watched me climb higher and higher.
watch sb. do sth.意为“看见某人做某事”watch sb. doing sth.意为“看见某人正在做某事”。
(1)watch, see, notice, hear等感官动词的宾语跟省略to的动词不定式作宾语补足语。
(2)higher and higher意为“越来越高”。“比较级+比较级”表示“越来越……”若是多音节形容词其结构为“more and more+多音节形容词”。

“It takes/took sb. some time to do sth.”意为“做某事花费某人多长时间”。

by the way意为“顺便问一下顺便说一下”常用作插入语。
take care还意为“当心小心”相当于be careful。
